What is a REP or payment complement?
The REP (Electronic Payment Receipt) is the CFDI that proves you collected an invoice issued on credit. It does not replace the invoice, it completes it. The original invoice goes out with payment method PPD (installments or deferred) and payment form 99 "To be defined"; when the money arrives, you issue the REP with payment complement 2.0.
Without the REP, SAT treats that income as undocumented: your client cannot credit the VAT and you are left with an open PPD invoice that does not reconcile with your books.
When you must issue a payment complement
- Whenever the invoice was issued as PPD, no matter how small the installment.
- When the invoice was PUE but the payment did not arrive in the same month it was issued.
- No later than the fifth calendar day of the month following the one in which the payment was received.
- One REP can cover several payments and several invoices, but each related document carries its own installment, prior balance and outstanding balance.
How to generate the REP step by step
Upload the PPD invoice XML and the assistant reads the UUID, currency, taxes and balance. You enter the payment amount and date; it computes the installment, the prior and outstanding balances and the payment's tax breakdown, and assembles the XML ready to stamp with your PAC.
The most common payment complement 2.0 errors
- EquivalenciaDR other than 1 when the invoice and the payment share a currency.
- The sum of the related documents' bases does not match the payment's BaseP (code CRP20268).
- A miscalculated outstanding balance: it must be the prior balance minus the amount paid, not the invoice total.
- An installment number that repeats or skips.
- Issuing a REP when the invoice was PUE and was paid within the same month: no complement belongs there.
- Cancelling the original invoice while a REP is already stamped: cancel the REP first.
