SAT code search: ClaveProdServ and ClaveUnidad
The search queries SAT's catalog by keyword and returns the 8-digit code that goes on your invoice. Search by what you sell, not by your commercial name: "systems consulting" has a key; your product's brand name does not.
These are two separate catalogs and both are mandatory on every CFDI line item: ClaveProdServ says what you sell, ClaveUnidad says in what unit you measure it.
SAT ClaveProdServ catalog: 8 digits in CFDI 4.0
The catalog holds over 52,000 keys organized by segment, family, class and product. The leading digits are the general category and the trailing ones the detail, so if you cannot find the exact key you can move up a level and use the more general one in the same branch — that is valid, and better than forcing a key from another category.
Key 01010101: when to actually use it
01010101 means "Not in the catalog" and is only for cases where no key truly applies. It is one of the most searched keys and one of the most misused: if you use it out of convenience, SAT can disallow your client's deduction because the receipt does not describe what was sold. Before falling back to it, look for your product's general class.
Key 86141500 and other professional service keys
86141500 covers training and professional development services; it is one of the most looked-up keys alongside consulting, administrative services and leasing. If you invoice services, your key is usually in segment 80 (management and administration services) or 86 (education and training).
ClaveUnidad: the unit of measure catalog
ClaveUnidad comes from the UNECE catalog SAT adopted. The everyday ones are E48 (service unit), H87 (piece), ACT (activity), KGM (kilogram), LTR (liter) and MTR (meter). Professional services normally use E48 or ACT; goods use H87 or the real physical unit.
What happens if you use the wrong key
The receipt still gets stamped: SAT does not check that the key matches the product. The problem shows up later, in an audit, when the description does not line up with the declared key and the authority disallows the deduction or asks for clarification. Pick it well up front, and do not change it from month to month for the same product.
How to choose the right ClaveProdServ?
ClaveProdServ is an 8-digit code that identifies the product or service in your CFDI invoice. SAT maintains a catalog with over 52,000 codes. Using the wrong code can cause deduction rejections or SAT requirements.
Tips
- Search by product/service keywords, not the exact commercial name.
- If you can't find a specific code, use a more general one within the same category.
- Code 01010101 (Not in catalog) should only be used as a last resort.
